Live as we know it

27 April 2008

Well it’s been over a month since I have last given myself a moment to write here and even now I am only stealing a few minutes while I wait with the kids in the car in the Trader Joe’s parking lot while Julie replenishes our bread and pasta supplies after Pesach. Much has happened and while I won’t detail everything, I will just say a few things:
1) work has been very busy and I have been pushing 12 to 14 hour days consistently as well as putting in hours on the weekends. We have hired a friend to do part-time admin and that is helping, but ultimately we need to staff up with a few web professionals so that julie and I aren’t hacking html or editing graphics ever again.
2) Friday I passed another kidney stone. I spent the better part of the day in the ER and finally passed the 2mm stone from my kidney around 3 pm into my bladder and then from by my bladder on saturday at 5pm.
3) about a week ago I put up my first 40 gallons of mead at the winery and look to put up another 40 gallons in the next few weeks.
4) on Saturday I spent the weekend getting certified as a cub scout leader to take kids out on campouts and I have had a deepening of my commitment to the scouting program, despite all of its warts.
Today we all went to a Giants game and soon this evening I will be attending the symphony with julia to listen to Carmina Burana.
News at 11.

Things moving closer to completion…

27 October 2007

Hello everyone. Remember me? I’m the guy who used to talk to you every now and again, and it appears for the last few months that I’ve just all but dropped off the face of the planet. Well, that’s not true, though it’s been a busy time for me. Some of the things to top my list:

1) I’ve just completed conversion to Judaism in September, and while you might think this reduces my workload, it only increases it, as I’m learning Hebrew and becoming involved with more and more of the community. For example, I’m now on the religious school board.

2) Julie and I have been starting a business since August, and have several clients, more prospects, and no limit of the work we’re not managing to get done. This is on top of my straddling my day job, leaving me with little time to do anything but work, eat, sleep or poop. It’s amazing I’m allowing myself to even write this blog entry.

3) Today I just racked off 40 gallons of mead into secondary fermenters and let me tell you, my back is killing me. I did get to sample the wares, however, and things are looking very very good. Coming to a wine glass near you in 3 to 6 months.

4) Struggling with Movable Type 4 to get back all the functionality I knew and loved on MT3. Upgrades are good, right?

5) Just got Leopard and I’m installing it on all the computers one by one.

6) our TV is hung and our fireplace is done. Only a little touch-up painting and trim remains. We’ve burned two fires in the last three days, and it’s really nice. Come visit us and see.

Tired is the operative word. I should sleep but I can’t.

Promised Memes deferred and delayed…

3 May 2007

Remember this meme I posted over a month ago?

  • Tell you why I friended you.
  • Associate you with a song/film.
  • Tell a random fact about you.
  • Tell a first memory about you.
  • Associate you with a character/pairing.
  • Ask something I’ve always wanted to know about you.
  • Tell you my favorite user pic of yours [if it pertains].
  • In retort, you must spread this disease in your LJ [or blog].

Okay… I am *finally* getting back to some of you all on this. Ugh. the time goes somewhere I do not know. These are in order of request:
    Lisa
    1. I friended you because you were flirty, irreverrant, and you danced with me in the aisle during ‘Scent of a Woman’. So hot.
    2. Debbie Does Dallas?
    3. Random Fact: Lisa is a real fully-certified psychic. It’s scary. Watch her, she will blow your mind.
    4. First memory: meeting you at your house, Bert brought me over. I instantly fell in love with you. You were cute, sassy, and willing to take risks. You reminded me of myself, which was the perfect ingredient for my narcissism at age 17.
    5. [This is my least favorite question in the group, I really have to say] Let’s go for a pairing. How about champaigne and pink kitty?
    6. Again, I feel our friendship is such that I can (and do) ask you anything I want to know.
    7. N/A (tho I love the picture on your blog)
    8. Your turn, if you want.
    Matt
    1. I friended you because you were one of the only ‘cool’ folk working with me at the time, and you reminded me a lot of myself (again, with the narcissism!)
    2. Revenge of the Ninja
    3. Random Fact: Matt has a massive controller for a mech game that would blow your mind… and I’ve still never played the game!
    4. First Memory: Those early days at the CDL are a blur, but I remember sharing a wall and laughing like crazy all the time. Those were the days.
    5. Ask a Ninja
    6. Again, if I want to know, I’ll just ask you.
    7. N/A (*do* you have a livejournal account?!)
    8. ditto
    Julie
    1. I friended you because you were beautiful, smart and didn’t play any silly girl games. Plus, you pet my hair at faire and I just love that.
    2. True Companion
    3. Random Fact: Julie has the most extensive science fiction and fantasy paperback collection that I have EVER seen.
    4. First Memory: I remember sitting at Ren Faire, at one of the tables in the guild yard, and hearing this woman talk about her sociology program at UCSB, and I remember thinking ‘what an interesting and intelligent woman’. I turned around to see who was talking, and there was this HOT woman. I knew I had to get to know her.
    5. What pairing? Why the perfect pairing, me and you!
    6. Again, I’ll just ask you if I want to know something.
    7. I like your super-turkey photo the best!
    8. Do me, baby!
Emily (did you formally ask me to meme you?)

forgive the empty posts, but I’m testing my software. Ever since my update to 3.34, MT has been a little persnickety.

    Anyone remember me?

    16 April 2007

I’ve had quite the month, full of travel, sickness, health, highs, lows and existential crisis. So many times I thought of you all, and wanted to tell you all about my processes, but as usual, the blog deferred is the blog lost. And the effect is a cumulative paralysis of non-posting, for lack of proper time and attention to give the 30 items I haven’t posted before THIS new item comes to fore.
So I’m breaking the seal, so to speak, and just putting it out there. Today, I don’t have a lot to say, but I wanted to say it nonetheless, just so that I can start talking to all of you again.
    Small items:
    I’ve been playing with http://www.talkr.com/app/cast_pods.app?feed_id=28482
I’ve traveled way too much lately, and I’m happy to be home for a while. I’m sorry if I’ve been out of touch or slow to reply. Obviously I haven’t been available to blog. That will all change now.
For those who replied to my meme, your posts ARE coming. I promise.
Well, that’s it for today. My taxes are in (I had to pay state URGH), and my obligations are under control. I will be posting more.

Why didn’t anyone tell me until now that my comments were broken?! LOL. Okay, now you can send me your love in the form of tiny little quips and comments. Sorry about that, even web wizards experience technical difficulties.
