Today I’ve just got a lovely picture of my mom and me. She’s typically denying the camera as she often would, which is strange because she was so pretty, but she developed a self-consciousness that kept her from loving her own pictures. I’m goofing off here and giving her ‘bunny ears’, but I’m also looking at her and loving her. This should have been the Mother’s day shot – thanks Mom, for being such a brave young mom and having me at 17, for raising me and spending so much time and energy in teaching me to read, and to draw, to love art, and to see the world with an artist’s eye. For making sand candles, finger paintings, needlepoint, pastels, and many others. You were a good mom to me, and loved me with all of yourself. I was lucky to have you.
